Educational Philosophies: |
My educational philosophy has been greatly impacted by my experience of having taught in six countries in person, online and with students of all ages. During my time as a home learning consultant, and as a parent, I have discovered children learn best when engaged, excited and curious. I have seen the success of interest-led learning firsthand with my own children where fascination, inquisitiveness, and a need to understand drive the desire to learn. Therefore, I believe personal meaning making is nonlinear and is impacted by how we engage with the world around us, with children learning when they are ready, not under stress and interested. The activities need to make sense to them and be relevant to their daily lives. As a strong advocate of home-learning and unschooling I resonate with Montessori’s model that supports the child in their learning through freedom and choice whenever possible. Learning should be fun, and I encourage learning through play, curiosity, testing and by making mistakes and this is the same for adults as well as children. |
